Short-Term Care Insurance
Short-Term Care Insurance helps cover the cost of non-medical care received outside of a hospital or doctor’s office setting. This insurance option can be used to help pay for home healthcare services, adult daycare, assisted living care, nursing home care, or hospice care for a specific period of time, usually up to 360 days.
Who is Short-Term Care Insurance designed for?
Short-Term Care insurance is designed for individuals’ age 50-79 who are concerned about how they might cover the cost of non-medical care as they age. Individuals who are currently healthy and want to proactively plan for their future care needs should consider the benefits offered in a Short-Term Care insurance policy.
What does Short-Term Care Insurance cover?
Short-Term Care insurance can be used to help cover costs of non-medical care needed while recovering from an illness or injury or for non-medical care needed as one ages. Individuals become eligible to receive benefits when they require assistance with at least two of the six Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including:
- getting in and out of bed
- using the bathroom
- getting dressed
Why is Short-Term Care Insurance needed?
Short-Term Care Insurance can be a critical piece in a comprehensive financial plan. The out-of-pocket expenses associated with non-medical care received in a long-term care or rehab facility can cause financial hardship and stress. This insurance plan can be used in conjunction with existing healthcare coverage to fill gaps and help provide financial security.
